Approximately 150 enthusiastic Chileans and friends of Chile gathered on May 31 at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church for the annual bingo of the Chilean-American Foundation.
This event has become the principal annual get-together for dozens of donors, volunteers, and friends of the Foundation who unite in the mission of helping children and youth in Chile overcome conditions of poverty and social risk. Lawrence Lamonica, President of the Foundation, highlights the event for its “unique ability to unite all in an afternoon of friendship, solidarity, and celebration of our culture.”
As in previous years, the Chilean Embassy, the Chilean OAS Mission, the Chilean Consulate, and the Chilean military attaches in Washington, D.C. participated actively and made generous donations of prizes and food. Mr. Juan Gabriel Valdes, the Ambassador of Chile, warmly praised the work of the Foundation. The Chilean Consul, Mr. Arturo Giadala, and his family collaborated actively in the event.
The funds raised by the bingo permit the Foundation to continue aiding Chilean children. During 2014, the Foundation is financing programs to help disadvantaged students to enter Chilean universites, to promote language skills, to protect victims of child abuse, and to aid victims of natural disasters.
