Approximately 140 enthusiastic Chileans and friends of Chile gathered on June 15 at the Pilgerim Lutheran Church for the annual bingo of the Chilean-American Foundation (CAF).
This event has become the principal annual get-together for dozens of donors, volunteers, and friends of the CAF who unite in the mission of helping children and youth in Chile overcome conditions of poverty and social risk. Lawrence Lamonica, President of the CAF, highlights the event for its “unique ability to unite all in an afternoon of friendship, solidarity, and celebration of our culture.”
As in previous years, the Chilean Embassy, the Chilean OAS Mission, the Chilean Consulate, and the Chilean military attaches in Washington, D.C. participated actively and made generous donations of prizes and food. Roberto Matus, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chilean Embassy warmly praised the work of the CAF. The Chilean Consul, Arturo Giadala and his family collaborated actively in the event.
The funds raised by the bingo permit the Foundation to continue its labor of aiding Chilean children. During 2013, the CAF will finance programs for victims of child abuse and reading programs for children and youth in the Valparaiso region.
