The objective of this initiative in Valparaíso called Ciencia Al Tiro is to strengthen children’s motivation to learn science in very poor schools with highly vulnerable students. A center of excellence in scientific research, the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences of University of Valparaiso is carrying out the project. Since 2008, the Center has been organizing workshops to encourage scientific and technological interest among sixth to eight graders who attend public schools in the lowest-income areas of Valparaiso. The Foundation is financing training workshops and providing teaching materials for on-the-job training for 25 science teachers in public schools. Approximately 750 middle-school students benefit from this project.
